For the Crust:
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 1 cup cherry pie filling
- 1 cup vanilla custard or pastry cream
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup sliced almonds
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the puff pastry sheet and cut a large circle, then cut a smaller circle inside to form a ring.
- Spread the custard evenly over the pastry ring, leaving a border around the edges.
- Spoon the cherry pie filling over the custard layer.
- Fold the outer edge of the pastry over the filling, pressing gently to seal.
- Brush the pastry with beaten egg and sprinkle with sliced almonds.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and puffed.
- Let cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.
