A savory twist on the classic dessert, this baklava combines pistachios, fresh basil, and feta cheese for a unique appetizer or main dish.

For the Crust:

  • 1 package phyllo dough
  • 1 cup unsalted pistachios, shelled and chopped
  • 1 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Layer a sheet of phyllo dough in the dish and brush with melted butter. Repeat with half the phyllo sheets.
  3. Mix pistachios, feta, and basil in a bowl, then spread the mixture evenly over the phyllo layer.
  4. Continue layering the remaining phyllo sheets, brushing each with butter.
  5. Cut the layered phyllo into squares or diamonds, ensuring you cut all the way through.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Allow to cool before serving.
