For the Crust:
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ½ tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 large orange, zested and juiced
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a star-shaped cake pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- In another bowl, combine orange zest, orange juice, vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract.
- Gradually mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined.
- Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Let cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
